Joburg Overview Tour – Gerald’s Favourites (9am-6pm)
This tour includes some of the spaces and places Gerald loves to frequent in Johannesburg. It takes in the verdant Parks suburbs (between Rosebank and the inner-city), as well as the best of downtown Joburg. If you truly want to experience the best of Joburg, combine this full day tour with a second Soweto full day tour. Then you will get to know and love this city even more!
9:00: Pickup at your hotel in Rosebank, Sandton, or the Parks Suburbs
(Pickups further afield are possible but please check with us when booking as it will influence the schedule/timing of the tour. It could also incur an additional cost depending on the location.)
9:30: STOP 1: Tea/Coffee/Beer/Snacks at Flames Restaurant at the Four Seasons Westcliff Hotel.
Enjoy one of the best views over Johannesburg’s urban forest from the outside deck, while Charlie tells some of the background history of the city.
10:15: Depart
10:30: STOP 2: The South African (Anglo-Boer) War Memorial
We visit this incredible Archway with its Angel of Peace sculpture, designed by Lutyens, and built after the Anglo Boer War in the early 1900s. It paid homage to British soldiers who died in this tragic war. The monument was rededicated in the 1990s to all soldiers from all backgrounds and races, who died in what is now known as the South African War. Apart from admiring the architecture, learn how the War of Gold resulted from the creation of Johannesburg.

11:15 STOP 3: Constitution Hill
See the architectural masterpiece that is the Constitution Court and learn about the astonishing history of Constitution Hill, where both Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Madela were once imprisoned (at different times of course). We also walk to a rooftop hops farm next door, to give you an inkling of the ingenuity of Joburg’s urban farming entrepreneurs.
Note that the is not sufficient time to visit the prison museums, we offer a separate half-day walking tour option for that.

12:30: STOP 4: 44 Stanley Avenue in Milpark.
An astonishing shopping complex of alleyways in refurbished industrial buildings. There is time for a quick lunch at Saint Germain or Salvation Café.
13:45: Depart.
14:00: STOP 5: Chancellor House & Impala Stampede
Experience the streetside museum at the erstwhile law offices of Mandela & Tambo Attorneys. We then walk to the famous Impala Stampede sculpture in front of the erstwhile Art Deco offices of Anglo American
14:35: Depart
14:45: STOP 6: Gandhi Square, in the heart of the city.
Feel the heartbeat of Joburg, view the sculpture of the young Gandhi where he once worked as a lawyer in the city’s court.
15:00: Depart
15:20: STOP 7: Walk through Jewel City and Fox Street Maboneng
16:00: Depart
16:15: STOP 8: Rooftop drinks at Hallmark House in Maboneng
17:00: Depart
(If there is time or it is on route. we pop in at the incredible Pantry garage-side deli shop for some snacks to take home)
17:45: Drop off back at your hotel.
Open tours: In order to schedule this tour, we need a minimum initial booking of R2900 for transport and driver, PLUS R2900 for guiding and storytelling – which is R5800 in total. This fee applies for up to 3 guests. We will then allow additional guests to join the tour at R1950 per person.
Private tours: If you want to book this as an exclusive private tour, the minimum cost for up to 3 guests is R3300 for transport plus R3300 for guiding and storytelling – which is R6600 in total. If you are more than 3 guests, the private tour will cost R2200 per person.
Prices for private bookings of more than 7 guests could be slightly negotiable, depending on the size of the group.
Any food, drink or museum entrance fees for the customer’s account on the day.

Guests participate in all JoburgPlaces tours at their own risk. Neither JoburgPlaces, nor its guides, accept any responsibility whatsoever for any injury, accident or death that may occur while participating in a JoburgPlaces tour, whether in a public or a private space.
A tour booking is only secured upon payment.
Provisional bookings will automatically be cancelled if not paid within 48 hours from making a booking.
Bookings cannot be cancelled once paid for any reason whatsoever and no refunds will be offered for cancelled bookings.
Bookings can be postponed to another date if postponed more than 30 days in advance of the booked date. However, bookings cannot be postponed for any reason whatsoever within 30 days of the tour date, as we would lose the opportunity to take another booking for that slot.
STARTING POINT
For driving tours pick up and drop off from your hotel or accommodation (one address) is included as long as it is within the northern suburbs of the city or at the airport.
