Cape Nibbles Walking Tour
This is simply the most exciting LocalPlaces tour through which to get to know Cape Town. delight in the tastes and aromas of the most famous food and cuisines in Cape Town. Along the way we learn more of the history and cultures of the various local and migrant communities that introduced their foods to the city.
We walk to a whole gamut of astonishing restaurants, eateries and street-food joints in the inner-city of Cape Town. It is a sensory experience of note. We focus on the diverse migrant culture of the city, mixing a whole range of cuisines into an informal tasting experience that dabbles into South African and African cuisine, as well as ‘skhaftin’ culture (shift lunch/street food). Not only do we taste a wide range of fantastic food, but we also learn about the history of Cape Town and the communities who introduced the cuisines to this city.
As a walking tour, this experience lasts six hours. The tour can also be presented with transport included at additional cost, which will cut the time shorter by at least an hour. We can also customise the food tour so that it suits your specific interests and tastes.
Possible foods we typically sample on this tour:
Amagwinya (vetkoek) with beef mince and umfino (maize pap with green leafy vegetables and drizzled with herb oil) at a local, Xhosa-inspired eatery.
British-colonial inspired Fish & Chips.
The city’s most famous ‘skhaftin’: the Great Gatsby sandwich (steak masala, egg, chips and more on a footlong bun).
Another South African ‘skhaftin’ (this one Indian-inspired), the Bunny Chow. Delectable curry served in a hollowed-out half loaf of bread.
Cape Malay delicacies such as samoosas, dultjes and koesisters.
Crispy Ethiopian injera with berbere and klibe or the traditional way with a range of vegetable and meat toppings.
For those wanting to explore more Pan-African flavours we can add Tanzanian dishes and famous Nigerian fish. However, for some of these, transport will be essential.

Available only as a private tour, 7-days a week, subject to availability.
This tour can be booked as a 6-hour walking experience for R3400 for up to 4 guests.
Or R850 per person for more than 4 guests.
Should you wish us to provide transport (public-permitted vehicle and driver) we can provide a quote in line with the number of guests.
Note that the tour fee EXCLUDES all food and drinks which you order and pay for at each establishment we visit. We will make recommendations on what to taste, but you can also order less or more as you please.

Guests participate in all LocalPlaces tours at their own risk. Neither LocalPlaces, nor its guides, accept any responsibility whatsoever for any injury, accident or death that may occur while participating in a LocalPlaces tour, whether in a public or a private space.
A tour booking is only secured upon payment.
Provisional bookings will automatically be cancelled if not paid within 48 hours from making a booking.
Bookings cannot be cancelled once paid for any reason whatsoever and no refunds will be offered for cancelled bookings.
Bookings can be postponed to another date if postponed more than 30 days in advance of the booked date. However, bookings cannot be postponed for any reason whatsoever within 30 days of the tour date, as we would lose the opportunity to take another booking for that slot.
STARTING POINT
We will stipulate the starting point for your tour in your booking confirmation letter. This tour usually starts at Seven Colours Eatery at Battery Park in the V&A Waterfront.
