Fireplace wine tasting at the Vergenoegd Low homestead.

For guests who have already done our Scenic Winelands tour, or for guests who want to explore in other directions than Stellenbosch and Franschhoek only, we offer another wine tour, with various options to customize it into a unique day.

One of our favourite Cape wine estates by far is Vergenoegd Low. The experience here is simply superior with superb service and intimate settings. The estate is best known for its use of ducks to eat the bugs in the vineyards, as an alternative to using extensive pesticides. At 9am and 12noon every day, hundreds of ducks gather on the homestead lawns, before walking off for their afternoon shift of bug fighting. It is a sight to behold! Most memorable indeed.

Once we have marveled at the ducks, we enjoy a scrumptious breakfast at Geuwels Restaurant, owned by famous Chef Bertus Basson (not included in tour price/for your own account). We then move on to the historic Cape Dutch homestead (recently stylishly renovated) for superb wine tasting in front of the fireplace or in any of the various private tasting rooms – a much more intimate wine tasting experience than on offer than at many of wine farms in the region.

Note that this tour is only possible Wednesday to Sunday every week as the restaurants at Vergenoegd Low are not open on Monday and Tuesday.

By 12noon, we depart and you can choose several directions for the afternoon.
