Charlie’s Finest Joburg Tour
If you have one day only in Johannesburg and you want to see the best of Johannesburg’s, including Soweto, then this tour is for you. It is a stellar day, exploring some of the finest places in Johannesburg, as selected by Charlie. It covers some of his favourite spaces and places all over the city, Soweto and the suburbs, including a fantastic stop for lunch is Soweto. It will leave you inspired and mesmerised.
This tour can also be somewhat customized if there are specific places you want to visit. We can incorporate those and remove others.
The typical itinerary is as follows (it may vary slightly depending on the day and circumstances):
9:00am: Pickup at your hotel in Rosebank, Sandton, or the Parks Suburbs
Pickups further afield are possible but please check with us when booking as it will influence the schedule/timing of the tour. It could also incur an additional cost depending on the location.
9:20am: STOP 1: Nine Yards
We start with coffee and storytelling, setting the scene for the day. Nine Yards is a fantastic urban village, carved out of nine separate residential properties, combined and refurbished into a stellar retail precinct that includes restaurants, coffee shops, health-and-well-being businesses and artisanal makers – from fashion to furniture and design.
10:00am: Depart
10:15am: STOP 2: South African War Memorial/Angel of Peace
This poignant arched monument originally paid homage to British soldiers who died during the 2nd Anglo Boer War, but it has been rededicated to all South Africans fallen in wars. Right to the zoo, it is a beautiful spot to take in and admire.

10:45am: STOP 2: Joburg inner-city
Stop at a few key-historic and significant places in the hear of Joburg. These could include JSE Newtown (historic 1980s stock exchange in Diagonal Street), pristine Main Street in Marshalltown, The Mine Shaft Museum at Standard Bank or the streetside Museum at Chancellor House where Mandela & Tambo had their 1952 law office.

11:45am STOP 3: Outside Soccer City
Photo opportunity outside the imposing Soccer City/FNB Stadium that hosted the 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup final.

12:10pm: STOP 4: Hector Pieterson Memorial
We stop outside the museum, at the memorial that pays homage to Hector Pieterson and the Soweto Uprising on 1976.
12:45pm: Depart
1:00pm: STOP 5: Vilakazi Street
Amble along Vilakazi Street, perhaps have a drink at a shebeen and lunch at a choice of restaurants.
2:30pm: Depart
3:00pm: STOP 6: Jewel City/Maboneng
Explore the vibrant streets where Johannsburg inner-city is being reimagined. Marvel in the incredible street art.
3:30pm: Depart
3:45pm STOP 7: Constitutional Court
Stop at Constitutional Court to admire one of South Africa’s proudest landmarks and architectural marvels.
4:15pm: Depart
4:30pm: STOP 8: 44 Stanley Avenue
Explore this inspirational retail precinct, carved out of erstwhile industrial buildings. Time for browsing and shopping, or a drink under the trees in the magnificent courtyard.
5:30: Bus departs
6:00pm: Drop off at hotel

Only available as a private tour, 7-days a week, subject to availability.
We charge separately for guiding and for transport:
The minimum guiding charge is R5000 for up to 3 guests or R1600 per person if you are more than 4 guests.
Plus the minimum transport charge is R2600 in total for up to 2 guests or R3000 in total if you are up to 6 guests. For more guests, we will quote you on the best transport option. Transport charges may vary depending on your pickup and drop-off location or the travel season. We will confirm charges before you make the booking.
Any food, drink or museum entrance fees for the customer’s account on the day.

Guests participate in all LocalPlaces tours at their own risk. Neither LocalPlaces, nor its guides, accept any responsibility whatsoever for any injury, accident or death that may occur while participating in a LocalPlaces tour, whether in a public or a private space.
A tour booking is only secured upon payment.
Provisional bookings will automatically be cancelled if not paid within 48 hours from making a booking.
Bookings cannot be cancelled once paid for any reason whatsoever and no refunds will be offered for cancelled bookings.
Bookings can be postponed to another date if postponed more than 30 days in advance of the booked date. However, bookings cannot be postponed for any reason whatsoever within 30 days of the tour date, as we would lose the opportunity to take another booking for that slot.
STARTING POINT
For driving tours pick up and drop off from your hotel or accommodation (one address) is included as long as it is within the northern suburbs of the city or at the airport.
