Gerald’s Finest Cape Town Tour
If you have only one day in Cape Town and want to see more than just the inner city, but would prefer not to walk all day, then this tour is for you.
This is a stellar experience, exploring some of the finest places in Cape Town, as selected by Gerald. The tour covers some of his favourite spaces and places across the City Bowl, the Southern Suburbs and the Atlantic Seaboard.
If you want to feel like a local, rather than a tourist standing in queues at over-marketed major sights, then this tour comes highly recommended. It will leave you inspired and mesmerised!
Please note: This tour does not include the southern Peninsula (Hout Bay/Chapman’s Peak/Cape Point/Cape of Good Hope), the villages of False Bay (Simon’s Town, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg), or the famous penguins of Boulders Beach. For these, we recommend arranging a separate full-day Peninsula Tour.
However, we can somewhat customise this tour if there are specific places you would like to visit near the city. We can incorporate these by removing other stops from the itinerary.
The typical itinerary
The itinerary below may vary slightly depending on the day and circumstances.
9:00am: Pickup at your hotel in the City Bowl
Pickups further afield are possible, but please check with us when booking, as this will influence the schedule and timing of the tour. It may also incur an additional cost, depending on the location.
9:20am: STOP 1: V&A Waterfront
We start with a spectacular view, coffee and an opening storytelling session at Native Coffee Roasters inside Ginja Restaurant at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel.
10:00am: Depart
10:15am: STOP 2: Battery Park, V&A Waterfront
We visit this modern part of the Waterfront, built on the site of a historic Dutch fort, and explore a mini-museum featuring historic cannons.

11:00am: STOP 3: Old Valkenberg Homestead
The Protea Hotel Cape Town Mowbray stands on what was once one of the first free-citizen farms in the Cape, dating back to 1661. The historic homestead, rebuilt in the 1700s and modernised in the 1800s, still straddles the Liesbeek River today.

12:00pm: STOP 4: Groot Constantia
We explore South Africa’s oldest wine farm, taking in its extraordinary architecture and marvelling at its beautiful Cape Dutch-style Grounds.

12:45pm: STOP 5: Alphen Boutique Hotel
We explore another historic farmstead, once part of Groot Constantia but today home to a trendy boutique hotel. Lunch options here include La Belle Bistro & Bakery, Blanko Restaurant or Incognito Bar, depending on your preferred ambience and budget.

3:00pm: STOP 6: Green Point Park & Green Point Lighthouse
We amble through this spectacular contemporary park adjacent to Cape Town Stadium, ending at the historic Green Point Lighthouse on the promenade.

4:00pm: STOP 7: Coffee at Prom Park on the Sea Point Promenade
We stop for a coffee break and take in the awesome ocean views from the promenade.

4:45pm: STOP 8: Clifton 4th Beach
Clifton’s 4th Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Cape Town. Hidden and secluded, it enjoys protection from the heavy winds that sweep across the city. Surrounded by beach bungalows favoured by the rich and famous, it is a spectacular place to pause and take in the scenery.

5:45pm: STOP 9: Signal Hill Viewpoint
We end the day atop Signal Hill, where you have the perfect view of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Seaboard, with the sun setting over the ocean.

7:00pm: Hotel drop-off
Throughout the day, Gerald will weave in the narrative of his four storytelling themes, covering the history of Cape Town and South Africa.
By the end of the day, you will have seen some of the city’s most spectacular hidden gems while also learning its full and fascinating history.
During the mid-summer months, we can time the tour to start at 10:30am and end at 8:30pm, allowing you to take in the sunset from Signal Hill.
RATES:
Only available as a private tour, 7-days a week, subject to availability.
We charge separately for guiding and for transport:
The minimum guiding charge is R5000 for up to 3 guests or R1600 per person if you are more than 4 guests.
Plus the minimum transport charge is R3000 in total for up to 2 guests or R3900 in total if you are up to 6 guests. For more guests, we will quote you on the best transport option. Transport charges may vary depending on your pickup and drop-off location or the travel season. We will confirm charges before you make the booking.
Any food, drink or museum entrance fees for the customer’s account on the day.

Guests participate in all LocalPlaces tours at their own risk. Neither LocalPlaces, nor its guides, accept any responsibility whatsoever for any injury, accident or death that may occur while participating in a LocalPlaces tour, whether in a public or a private space.
A tour booking is only secured upon payment.
Provisional bookings will automatically be cancelled if not paid within 48 hours from making a booking.
Bookings cannot be cancelled once paid for any reason whatsoever and no refunds will be offered for cancelled bookings.
Bookings can be postponed to another date if postponed more than 30 days in advance of the booked date. However, bookings cannot be postponed for any reason whatsoever within 30 days of the tour date, as we would lose the opportunity to take another booking for that slot.

For driving tours pick up and drop off from your hotel or accommodation (one address) is included as long as it is within the city bowl or Atlantic Seaboard area. We can quote for pickups further afield.
